Printout format change?
« on: August 27, 2017, 11:49:35 AM »

A few days ago I got a turnsheet that, when run through my tools, broke.  Turned out spaces (0x20) got turned into what I think are Unicode spaces (0xa0), which broke my tools.

Anyone out there who knows how to do a hexdump and has gotten a turn recently willing to see if you have the same issue?  I've got another turn coming in 2 days, I'll check that one myself.  If you're on a Linux box 'less' shows the 0xa0's clearly.

Need to figure out if the issue is on FBI's end (something changed they don't know about) or my end (something changed I don't know about).

Already talked to Chuck, he says nothing on their end has changed in years.  Which I believe.

That is a curious one. I partially built a tool myself a while ago, but I don't have any new single turn printouts I can test it on. (I'm only playing in a multi game at the moment, and I never got around to modifying my tool to accommodate them.)

Um, whiskey tango foxtrot.  I just edited an entry, and it now shows up as an mt entry.  So not only can we not preview out posts, but if we see them live and edit them they also show up blank?

No wonder this site is dead.

That's interesting.  First, I didn't preview my empty post two posts up.  When I hit 'post' I got the expected result.

Better, I never made the preceding post (whiskey tango foxtrot).  That post was made a couple months ago when I first realized previewing posts was A Bad Thing (tm).

Craig, what does your tool do and what is it written in?  I've got a Java world database program.  Keeps track of the worlds I've seen, the first time I saw it, the last time I saw it, and the IND, POP, METAL, etc (everything on the printout) from the last time I saw it.

I wrote it to help mapping.  Lets say you see W1(2, 3, 4), and W8(3, 9, 10).  It will show W3 connects to both 1 and 8.

I should mention, to fix the 0xa0 problem if you can run sed do:

sed -e 's/\xa0/ '/g < infile > outfile

If you can't run sed you have no idea what I'm talking about, look into cygwin for windows.
