Bears are actually tough enemies!  I don't know the hit points of them, but it will probably take a few turns to defeat them if you have a split team.

Another game you might like is DungeonWorld from Madhouse.  You can play most of their games for free as long as you just have one position.  The Broken Lands expansion is set in a dungeon similar to HF.  It's a tad bit more complex than HF, but the turns are still easy to write.  I like the game, but have never decided to pay for more positions.

What I like about Madhouse is that most of there games run on the Nexus enginge which means their tactical games all pretty much share the same rules and structure and each turn has some really attractive looking print outs of your current position.  I think Rick has said that the 5th level of HF might actually just be those characters go to the DungeonWorld land with some unique bonuses.

Robert,

All NPCs are in clans, but it is not by kindred. Sometimes it's by their common names or themes of names. Some clans will be set to attack any character who has attacked a clan member before and other clans don't care. There's no way to tell until you attack one. NPCs aren't worth much, but you can sleep them and take prizes off of them.

There is a monster clan of Chinese Foxes (they initially show up as a duplicate of another character in the dungeon). Once you kill a Chinese Fox, they all will attack you when encountered.

There are disguise prizes that will stop the clan vendetta as the character no longer looks like the one that attacked them.

Cheers,
Paul

Robert,

If a fighter uses a Thunderbird Egg it Prepares a Fireball spell that the fighter can use. Each use of the egg prepares one spell.

In the description of one of my characters it seems that I see:

he shows as being spied every turn, I am guessing that is because of some prize he has picked up

and I see after strength and constitution the "Pro=8" description.

This is in a single player game on level one..what does this mean?

Thanks in advance!

Interesting! I don't know why he is listed as Spied.

The Pro stands for Protection, which protects the character against magical attacks (reduces damage by the number given, functioning the way a shield would against a weapons attack). Usually an item (like a Cup) will give temporary Protection.

I have each of my first level characters to 10,000 exp and was thinking this is the time to level up.  Guidelines on how much str and con characters can add?  I have elf magic users and dwarf fighters.  Specific weapon types that might be more useful on the second level?

Impressive! My characters only averaged about 4,200 exp when we descended to level 2. I have not been on level 2 for very long but I bought shields for my elf magic-users. I have encountered more magic-using monsters who like to cast blast spells so be ready for that. I have also found more invisible monsters (so cast Reveal a lot) and watch out for NPC clerics--they like to cast "Heal" spells that actually cause damage to your characters.

I generally gave a little boost to Strength and Constitution for each character. One Strength costs 1000 pts, 1 Constitution costs 500.

Good luck!

A couple of Question folks..1.I am on the first level.  I have a character with 1 CON and full strength..he is unable to pick up any potions.  I am guessing that perhaps something he has in his possession causes this.  2.. I have found a second ENTRANCE room on this level and it does not connect to any of the rooms that I know as the original entrance room.  Ideas?

All help appreciated.  The only thing I can think of with the first situation is to drop everything that is not identified and perhaps some of the jewels and try and pick stuff up.  But NPCs can then get the stuff...

My understanding is that there are two entrance rooms on Level One.

There is a maximum number of prizes that any character can carry. I'm guessing that your character may have hit that maximum? Maybe your character could sell a few of the cheaper prizes in the store?
